Valentine’s Day: Community Care Fundraiser

Show some love for your friends and help a nonbinary community member recover from surgery!

Recovery hits hard.
Community hits harder.

Roller derby has always been about more than the track. It’s about chosen family, showing up injured or exhausted and still being held, and understanding that survival is a team sport.

This pop-up fundraiser is rooted in the belief that we take care of our own. Proceeds will go towards helping a nonbinary friend secure a mattress while they recover from breast reduction surgery. They work hourly and will be off their skates (and off work) for several weeks. A safe, supportive place to rest shouldn’t be a luxury — it’s part of healing.

This fundraiser is about showing up for each other in tangible ways. Cards, art, care. Don’t play roller derby? Don’t be shy! Join the fun, share some love, and learn about an exciting sport while supporting an awesome community!

Roller derby is built on chosen family, shared bruises, inside jokes, and unconditional hype. These cards celebrate all of that — with flirty wordplay and heart.

Printed Valentine’s card sets are designed and printed at home by #ZoryNotSorry (legal name, Zoryana), a queer, nonbinary artist and roller derby player based out of Ottawa, Ontario. Each set features four unique derby-inspired designs with cheeky puns and bright colours.

Whether it’s romance, friendship, or something deliciously undefined, these cards say I care about you in true derby style.

  • Full set (4 cards) for $10

  • 2 full sets (8 cards) for $20

  • 3 full sets (12 cards) for $25

Digital Download: Pay What You Can

A digital download of the complete derby Valentine’s Day card set is being offered on a pay-what-you-can basis to keep care accessible. If you have extra, your contribution helps support recovery and rest. If money is tight, please download and enjoy — you’re still welcome here.

Colour it loudly, quietly, messily, or not at all. These pieces exist as an invitation to celebrate love and share joy!

Finished your masterpiece? Share it on social and tag @houseofmessandmagic — I’d love to see (and share) what you make 💜

A bit behind the who and why

Hi — I’m #ZoryNotSorry (they/them)!

I skate with the Rapids, Riptides, and Valley Cats of Ottawa Valley Roller Derby. Roller derby gave me community when I needed it most. It gave me room to explore my queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent identity in a space that valued honesty, softness, strength, and showing up exactly as you are.

That sense of belonging — the people, the culture, the care — is what inspired this art and the desire to give back in a real, material way.

This fundraiser is rooted in the same values derby taught me: we don’t leave each other behind, we ask for help when we need it, and we show love through action. Community care isn’t abstract — it looks like rest, safety, and support.

Thank You for Being Part of This!
